Your child has cancer are words that no parent wants to hear. Yet, 1 in 300 families in the United States are handed this fate. Ours included. Our family knows personally how overwhelming and frightening the experience can be for everyone involved from beginning to end as our son Ben was diagnosed with cancer in 2005. We saw many children valiantly face challenges of social isolation, emotional distress and lack of physical activity. We also learned from the experts how childrens lives are unfairly jeopardized as childhood cancer research goes under-funded. With this knowledge, we are choosing to make a difference for all kids touched by cancer by founding KIDSSTRONG. KIDSSTRONGs mission is simple: To transform the quality of care and treatment of all children and families touched by cancer. Our goal is to blend high-tech with high-touch strategies to address the current gaps in comprehensive childhood cancer care and treatment such as kid and family friendly psychosocial supports, easy to use information navigation tools and patient registration providing community support and long term epidemiologic studies on cancer survivors. Now, it's your turn. Childhood cancer is an equal opportunity assailant. It can strike anyone, at anytime. Our story could be yours, a family members or friends. Everyday we are working against the clock to save children from pain and find more effective ways to confront childhood cancer. But we need your help to make it happen. Childhood cancer doesnt stop for better economic times. Our interventions and research are needed more than ever. Dont wait! With your help, KIDSSTRONG ( http://www.kidsstrong.org) can a improve childhood cancer care and save children from pain. To learn more visit: http://www.kidsstrong.org

Yes, unfortunately, Ben died in August 2005, at age 7, after 8 months of intense treatment. He was diagnosed in January 2005 at age 6 with Stage 1 Burkitts Lymphoma, which has a 93% cure rate. Ben fought with courage, tenacity, and even humor, seeking to embrace life in spite of this vicious cancer.
